Join us for the last in our film series, The Gatekeeper, showing at Chaboya Middle School April 2 at 6 p.m. Synopsis: There is a math crisis in America. By middle school, two-thirds of our students will fall behind grade level in their math classes. By high school graduation, fewer than half will be prepared for college-level courses. And yet, success in math remains a powerful gatekeeper–the door not only to coursework and college but also careers in science, medicine, technology, and engineering. Equally powerful is the myth that math skills are fixed and inborn: the idea, persistent across decades, that some students are good at math, and that those who aren't can't be taught. The film takes aim at this belief, asking why so little progress has been made to make even basic math accessible to all students.

Because good character is important to our school community, every month, Montgomery School teaches students the value and attributes of certain developmental traits as part of our character building program. For the month of November, the trait was Caring and for December, students learned Generosity. Names of students that were recognized are posted on this website under the "Our Students" tab above. You might find your child's name. The principal will be hosting a celebration for these students on Friday, January 18th during the school day. The Character Trait for January is Trustworthiness.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, John J. Montgomery School was recognized as the Champion School for Music Education in all of Santa Clara County! We are pleased to receive this distinction as we understand that music education is a strong aspect to a child's development. Here are some words from our music program partners, Music for Minors: We are excited to announce that we have selected Montgomery Elementary as our 2018-19 Champion School for Music Education! This is a designation given to a specific school each year based upon financial need, music value (presence of internal advocate for music education), and long-term commitment to include music as an integral part of a well-rounded education. Principal Guillermo Ramos, a strong leader and enthusiastic proponent of music comments, "It is an honor to work with the Music for Minors team and I look forward to the possibilities our relationship will continue to bring."
Second and Third grade students had the opportunity to meet and listen to a local renowned author/illustrator LeUyen Pham on October 23rd, 2018. She encourages to bring a sketchbook to record memories instead of using a camera. In addition, she reminds us that drawing is a language. Students heard Ms. Pham read her recently published book, "Stop That Yawn." To close the presentation, she modeled a live sketch session and personally autographed books for children.
