On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, John J. Montgomery School was recognized as the Champion School for Music Education in all of Santa Clara County! We are pleased to receive this distinction as we understand that music education is a strong aspect to a child's development. Here are some words from our music program partners, Music for Minors: We are excited to announce that we have selected Montgomery Elementary as our 2018-19 Champion School for Music Education! This is a designation given to a specific school each year based upon financial need, music value (presence of internal advocate for music education), and long-term commitment to include music as an integral part of a well-rounded education. Principal Guillermo Ramos, a strong leader and enthusiastic proponent of music comments, "It is an honor to work with the Music for Minors team and I look forward to the possibilities our relationship will continue to bring."
Second and Third grade students had the opportunity to meet and listen to a local renowned author/illustrator LeUyen Pham on October 23rd, 2018. She encourages to bring a sketchbook to record memories instead of using a camera. In addition, she reminds us that drawing is a language. Students heard Ms. Pham read her recently published book, "Stop That Yawn." To close the presentation, she modeled a live sketch session and personally autographed books for children.
On Monday, October 1, 2018, John J. Montgomery Elementary school held a ribbon cutting ceremony along with its new partners KPMG and pro golfer Maverick McNealy to unveil the new look in the library, which includes new painting, 1000 books, and $13,000 in new furniture. The exciting news was featured in ABC Channel 7 news. Weekly music classes for all students in Kindergarten through 4th grade will begin on Sept. 9, 2019. Students in grades 5th and 6th have the option to sign up for band. Please contact the office for more information.
The School Site council provides parents with an opportunity to give input into our school improvement efforts and monitors the implementation of the School Site Plan. The School Site Council is composed of five community members and five staff members. We meet once a month on a Tuesday from 2:10 p.m. - 3:10 p.m. The first meeting is September 17 at 2:10 p.m. in the school library. We are currently seeking new members. If you are interested in becoming a community representative, please contact the office at 408-270-6718.
Students in grades 1st - 6th go home at 12:45 p.m. on all Thursdays, starting August 29, 2019. Please note that Thursday, August 22nd is a full day of instruction as it is the first week of school.
