October's Project Cornerstone book title is "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon", by Patty Lovell. This month's story focuses on positive self-talk and self-image. Being proud of who you are makes it easier to stand up to those that may try to tease or bring you down. Cornerstone classrooms will discuss how they can develop and use their personal power to handle a bullying situation, and how caring adults can help support them.

Pokemon, the trading card craze based on Japanese Pocket Monster characters, is causing disruptions in class and at schools across the country - including here at Silver Oak. Students have difficulty keeping their minds off the cards during lessons and get into disputes when trading their cards. "Although, Pokemon cards are entertaining and provide learning opportunities, our school is not the place for them," says Howie Greenfield, Silver Oak Principal, "so parents, please make sure your child(ren) do not bring any Pokemon cards to school."
